24.5 weeks!

So where did I leave off? The last time I posted we had 10 school days left. I am happy to say that those 10 days have come and gone! I am officially on summer "break" however, I am not quite breaking yet! It feels good to be out of the classroom and to have some freedom- however, now it's crunch time. My mind is consumed with all of the millions of things I feel we have to get done before these babies are born! I need to make a list... but first things first!
I went for my week 24 visit on Tuesday, June 16. This time I saw Dr. Leventhal. She was very nice. I was happy to learn that I had only gained 5 lbs, bringing my weekly weight gain between appointments down to 1.6. I wanted to see Dr. Gaskins and give her some tips- but decided to let it go! I had an internal exam to check for signs of pre-term labor. Good news- there were none! I hope and pray things stay this way! My blood pressure was great- the babies looked great- and overall, everything was... well, great! I had my list of questions and Dr. Leventhal had no problem answering any of them. In a nutshell, my new due date is September 21st (which happens to add up to - you guessed it, 12!) This will be when I am 38 weeks. If I remember correctly, I don't think they are going to let me go past this point- but I have to double check on that! I am happy with the new due date as it is late enough in September that I will be able to start the school year. My assistant principal wants to bet me that I won't be back in August- but I really hope to prove her wrong! Mind over matter... (yeah right!). At this point, if I were to go into labor, I would most likely have a c-section. Brayden is head down (vertex), which is in line for a vaginal delivery. However, Brylie is perpendicular to him with her head to my left (transverse). She would have to turn in order to be delivered vaginally. Dr. Leventhal said if they stay in the same positions, some doctors would be willing to try a vaginal delivery with the hopes that Brylie would turn- however, it could end up being both vaginal and c-section if I opted to go this way. Only time will tell I guess. I was told that after 24 weeks with twins- life should slow down (I've already been taking it slow- so no problem there!). When I go back (week 28), I will be tested for Gestational Diabetes again and have my iron levels tested. I think they also do some sort of strep culture. I have an appointment with my high risk doctor next Monday, June 29. I'll be able to learn more about the babies then. My book states that this week, they are over 2 lbs. each and at least 9 inches long. One thing is for sure- they are growing, hence my belly!!! I feel them all the time and absolutely love it!
This past weekend, my Mom and Aunt threw James and I a family shower in Bernardsville, NJ. We had a great day! It was so fun celebrating the upcoming birth of our twins with everyone! We are overwhelmed with the amount of gifts we received! It is crazy how much we are going to need! On Sunday, we celebrated Father's Day. James and I went to BabiesRUs to exchange two of our car seats (since we got 4). Then we went to Best Buy to look for a video camera. While there, I used Best Buy's internet to search for deals on the cribs. I found them and then ordered them right away because Diapers.com was having a sale. What would have cost me $600 through BabiesRUS, only cost me $398! I am so happy with my bargain shopping! I am going to wait to order the dressers until the cribs come in. I don't particularly like the dressers that go with the cribs- so I need to see the cribs to match up a different brand dresser. (Yesterday I received an email saying the cribs had shipped- so I should be able to dresser shop soon...good thing since I need a place to put all of the clothes people are giving us!!!) After shopping, we went back to my parent's house for a delicious meal and then headed home after a wonderful weekend! When I go home I decided to check my email. I was so glad I did! Someone had seen my posting on Craig's List for the bumper I needed to complete Brayden's bedding. While she didn't have it- she told me she saw it on eBay. I immediately went on the site and was able to purchase it! I am so excited! This week I plan to pick up the primer and paint and then James will be ready to work!
This week I am writing curriculum for our Math office. In addition, I am attending a summer leadership conference (today was the first day). All week I will work 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. which isn't bad. It is great to get home at a decent hour! I've had lofty goals of accomplishing many things- however, my mind won't shut off and I find myself in front of the computer searching for baby tips and baby things! For instance, my plan for a nap today was taken over the idea of scheduling baby classes. I was able to find some classes and have some potential dates. I am still tired- but at least I feel accomplished!
In addition, I planned to go grocery shopping, however, I spent several hours instead, searching for child care. After speaking to about 25 people who did not have 2 infant openings, my phone rang. Someone who I spoke with in April and had left a message for earlier today called me back. She was in Rehoboth and decided to check her home messages. I was glad she did because.... SHE IS GOING TO HAVE TWO INFANT OPENINGS! She is a mom of 4 with one child starting middle school this fall. She is a former 1st grade teacher who is only 5 miles from our house!!! She sounds wonderful! I scheduled for James and I to meet with her on Monday evening at 7:30. I pray that this works out for us! I will keep you posted!
Well, that is about all for now. I am going to try to take a short nap now--- maybe I'll even make it to the store- but who knows!
Until next time...
