Follicle and Estrogen News

I had my second ultrasound and blood work appointment this morning. My appointment was the first of the day, at 7:15, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw 7 other women (some with their husbands) in the office when I arrived at 7:02 a.m. I was seen pretty much on time, but have now learned that it is first come first serve. You better believe I will be there at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday. (If only I could be this motivated to get to school on time!) I was able to get to school by 7:51... 5 minutes after my first class started. I hit the ground running and before I knew it- the end of the first school day back was here!

The blood work went more smoothly this time- but I still bled and bruised immediately. I've since learned that this is most likely going to happen every time since I am taking one children's aspirin a day now.

The ultrasound was fast- but kind of awkward when the technician noticed that the nurse forgot to put my patient number into the computer. She noticed this after the ultrasound had started... while she was trying to record the images of my endometrium and ovaries. She looked around and noticed that the sheet with my patient information was across the room. She kind of sighed and then said, "Here, hold this, I have to get your patient number." So there I was, spread eagle on the stirrups, when she motioned for me to grab onto the wand that she already had inside me! I was a little confused but did as she said and tried not to breathe as I was afraid to make any sudden movements.

It turns out that it was all worth it as she told me that she saw 14 follicles... that's 2 more than she saw on Friday. My nurse, Joy, called me a few minutes ago and gave me further good news. My estrogen level is at 162. At this point in my cycle, they want it at 100 or above... so I am responding well to the meds and my dosing will remain the same. In addition, 10 - 12 follicles is average. I love being above average! I finally feel like I'm achieving something!

I asked a lot of questions and she explained that by Wednesday, depending on my follicle growth, they are hoping my estrogen level doubles. If my follicles grow enough, they may be big enough to start measuring! I was shocked to learn that by the end of this (before egg retrieval), I will feel a lot more swollen and bloated, as my ovaries will grow to be the size of navel oranges! My plans to get an intense workout at the gym today were stunted when she advised against too much movement... so it looks like a slow steady walk on an incline, or the elliptical, it will be. I can't say I'm real disappointed!

So all in all it's been a great day! I'm off to tutor! Until next time...
